ARLINGTON, VA – Four truck drivers who have logged more 19 million miles of safe driving in more than a combined 147 years of service were honored by the National Private Truck Council (NPTC) and inducted into the NPTC Driver Hall of Fame during the Annual Education Management Conference and Exhibition held April 17-19, 2011 in Cincinnati, OH.

The drivers are from NPTC member companies and have met the minimum qualifications of 20 years, two million miles or 50,000 hours of driving without a preventable accident. Many of the drivers have far exceeded these qualifications and are known for having made significant contributions to their industry and their communities. Since its inception, 96 drivers have been installed in the Driver Hall of Fame.

Among this year’s Hall of Fame inductees is a local member of the community:

    Bobby C. Mann, Sr
., CPC Logistics, Inc. and Hospira Worldwide, Inc., Woodland, NC

In his 40 years as a professional truck driver, Bobby Mann, Sr., has racked up 5.5 million miles (the equivalent of 11 round trips to the Moon) without an accident or a moving violation. He started his driving career in 1970 working in the construction field hauling sand and gravel. He joined CPC 27 years ago and has accumulated 2.4 million miles of safe driving with the company. For his efforts, he has been recognized with both the one- and two-million mile safe driving award, in addition to CPC and ATA annual safe driving awards. He received the NPTC National Driver All-Star award in 2010. Today he runs 550 miles a day, hauling medical products over-the road throughout the U.S. and Canada.

He is a deacon at Immanuel House of Prayer Church in Woodland, NC where he has received awards for stewardship and faithful service. He credits a healthy lifestyle for his safety accomplishments. “I maintain my own personal wellness through regular examination and have lowered the amount of certain foods that may hinder good health,” he says. “I also decided to lose weight and exercise. I make sure that any medications that are prescribed will not hinder my safety or the safety of others.”

He maintains safe driving habits by being alert to what is going on around him at all times and keeping a safe following distance.  He says he always get to work well ahead of time to check his equipment, inspecting it to make sure that it is safe before getting on the highway.
